MacGillivray Freeman Films has a long history of educational leadership within the IMAX® Theatre film community. Not only are our films of the highest educational quality, we are also dedicated to helping students, teachers, families and people of all ages find ways to broaden their learning beyond the film-going experience.
Our series of award-winning educational outreach programs aims to enhance learning on topics addressed in each film and to increase interest in science, the environment, and world culture. Ultimately, we hope to present positive role models for children who might one day be inspired to become scientists or explorers or conservationists in their own right.
Teacher’s Guides—Approximately 20% of our audience is made up of school students. Curriculum-based Teacher’s Guides provide lesson plans and activities designed for learning in the classroom.
Family Activity Guides—Families say they want to learn more about the topics presented in our films. Our family activity guides deliver fun learning projects to do at home and resources for finding more information.
Scientist on Tour Program—There is nothing like meeting a scientist in person to get kids excited about science. Our Scientist On Tour program sends scientists from our films to speak at schools and museums across North America.
Speaker Series—The inspiring individuals seen in our films have exciting stories to tell, whether its climbing Mt. Everest, discovering new ocean species at the bottom of the sea, or running the world-class whitewater rapids of the Grand Canyon. Our speaker series allows these amazing individuals to share their stories in person with museum and theatre audiences around the world.
Traveling Exhibits—We work with some of the top museum exhibit specialists in the world to design interactive traveling exhibits to accompany our films.
Companion Books—Our series of illustrated photography companion books published by leading mainstream book publishers are a wonderful opportunity for audiences to learn even more about the people and topics presented in our films.
Underserved Student Screening Series—It is important to us that students of all ethnicities and backgrounds have a chance to discover their world through our films. Our student screening program has allowed more than 20,000 underserved Title I students to experience our films in IMAX Theatres across North America.
Conservation Fundraising Events—Since so many of our films inspire viewers to care more about protecting the natural world, we have a history of partnering with non-profit organizations to host special screening events that raise money for conservation efforts.
