To The Arctic 3D is an extraordinary journey to a place few of us will ever dare to go. Yet the Arctic is home to people, animals and sea creatures well-suited to this icy world. It is an annual destination each spring and summer to countless birds, animals and ocean-dwellers who come to the Arctic from all corners of the world to give birth to their young and feed on the bounty of life that exists here in one of the harshest environments on our planet. But dramatic changes are occurring here that threaten to disrupt this delicate balance of life.
Nowhere is climate change happening more rapidly than in the Arctic. Using the power of IMAX® film technology, To The Arctic will transport audiences to the ocean and tundra of the far north where they will witness the amazing richness and complexity of this environment, and how humankind has begun to change it. Viewers will dive underwater with a polar bear and its cub and discover a world beneath the ice where corals and odd creatures such as the Greenland shark thrive. They will fly above a thundering herd of caribou making their way to their calving ground, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. They will gaze across hundreds of miles of snow-bound peaks and ridges and wonder at the vast expanses of floating ice in the Arctic Ocean, an exquisite spectacle of sapphire white.
The stunning beauty of the Arctic will be palpable in this 40-minute giant screen film that aims to cultivate a sense of our connectedness, relevance, and impact on this special place--and the Arctic’s influence on the rest of our planet.
